High grade gold exploration drilling near Juneau Alaska

Grande Portage cut gold mineralization in North Vein, the northmost of five subparallel structures identified so far on the companies Herbert Gold project in Southeast Alaska.

Grande Portage Resources Ltd. Jan. 3 reported that drilling has cut gold in the North Vein, which marks the fifth subparallel gold structure confirmed with drilling on the company's Herbert Gold project a few miles north of Juneau, Alaska.

"We are pleased to have identified another subparallel mineralized structure bringing the total to five structures with attendant splays, spanning approximately one kilometers east-west," said Grande Portage Resources President Ian Klassen.

Situated about 300 meters north of the gold bearing Goat Vein structure, North Vein occupies an East-West trending fault which dips very steeply to the north and is similar in attitude to the other four gold veins identified at Herbert Gold – Goat, Main Vein, Deep Trench and Floyd.

Two reconnaissance samples taken from an outcrop of the North Vein in 2007 showed that strong gold values and free gold can be found locally in outcrop. One grab sample from the vein just north of Pad 18M, where the first North Vein holes were drilled from, contained 11.6 grams per metric ton gold. The second sample, a four-foot chip sample taken across a hydrothermally altered shear zone near the east end of the vein, averaged 3.57 g/t gold.

Drilll holes 18M-1 and 18M-2 confirmed the structure extends to at least 100 meters below surface and, combined with surface exposures, indicates a strike length of at least 260 meters for the vein.

Hole 18M-1 hit several strands of the fault over a true width of roughly eight meters. The two best intercepts were encountered in the footwall and hanging wall strands, situated about five meters. This hole cut 0.41 meters of 27.8 g/t gold in the footwall strand and 0.37 meters of 8.33 g/t in the hanging wall strand.

Grande Portage reports that visible gold was observed in the core from the footwall.

Hole 18M-2 hit weak faulting and alteration in the projected location of the vein with the best intercept returning 0.64 meters of 0.3 g/t gold.

"The surface and initial drilling results in 2018 demonstrate that future drilling is warranted to properly test the expansion potential of the North Vein," Klassen said. "This is in keeping with early drilling on the other veins similarly stacked at the Herbert. Mesothermal veins characteristically pinch and swell and thus we anticipate positive results based upon more drilling."

North Vein is the northernmost of five gold bearing structures identified so far at Herbert Gold, a property that hosts 1.1 million metric tons of indicated resource averaging 7.25 g/t (267,950 oz) gold; and 423,200 metric tons of inferred resource averaging 6.04 g/t (82,200 oz) gold, according to a resource calculation completed earlier in 2018.

Goat Vein, which hosts 308,078 metric tons of the Herbert Gold indicated resource averaging 6.19 g/t (79,037 oz) gold, was the primary target of the 2018 drill program at this Southeast Alaska gold property.

In addition to drilling, Grande Portage had a Lidar survey flown over roughly 5,000 acres of the Herbert Gold property this year. The ability to produce an enhanced map of the topographic features and lineations caused by structures in the bedrock, is helping the company in its search for other potential veins in areas covered with trees and brush.

Klassen indicates that this survey has turned up some prospects for other veins on the property.

"Additional subparallel structures may exist beyond the limits of our drilling as suggested from the LIDAR survey completed this year," said the Grande Portage Resources CEO.
