Grande Portage Resources Ltd. July 29 announced the start of a summer field program at its Herbert Gold project in Southeast Alaska that includes trenching and channel sampling across the Deep Trench and Main veins, as well as prospecting other potential veins running across this property north of Juneau.

According to a calculation completed in May, Herbert Gold hosts 1.88 million metric tons of indicated resource average 10.03 grams per metric ton (605,000 ounces) of gold; plus 553,429 metric tons of inferred resource averaging 14.15 g/t (251,700 oz) gold.

This resource is contained within three primary structures at Herbert Gold – Goat, Main and Deep Trench.

Trenching on Deep Trench Vein will be conducted near the central portion of the vein and eastern limit of past successful drilling, which focused on an outcrop where chip sampling of the vein assayed 14.1 g/t gold.

The company also plans to trench near the eastern end of Deep Trench, where the vein has split into two strands. One hole drilled by Grande Portage, DDH 10B-1 cut 0.52 meters of 9.4 g/t gold in the north strand. The company plans to trench a section of this north strand of Deep Trench Vein that crops out in a steep gully just west of the drill station.

In addition to trenching, this year's fieldwork will include mapping, sampling and new prospecting on the property to follow-up on prospective vein areas identified by a LiDAR (light detection and ranging) survey carried out last year.

So far, Grande Portage has identified five parallel gold-rich veins at Herbert Gold – Floyd, Deep Trench, Main, Goat and North.

These veins are found within a 1,000-meter section of a prospective 4,600-meter trend.

Results from the 2018 LiDAR survey clearly shows the known veins and identified 17 additional parallel and sub-parallel prospective structures in an area that extends more than 1,400 meters to the southeast and 400 meters to the northwest of the drilled veins.

These new structures will be prospected, mapped, and sampled to assess each one.

"As a follow-up to our 2019 updated mineral resource calculation, we are enthusiastic to conduct "on the ground" reconnaissance of the LiDAR survey targets," said Grande Portage Resources President Ian Klassen. "We are hopeful to find additional structures similar to the ones that host the Herbert Gold's expanding Indicated resource of 606,000 ounces at an average grade of 10.03 g/t gold and Inferred resource of 252,000 ounces at an average grade of 14.15 g/t gold."
