Nighthawk taps robust gold at Goldcrest

Deposit could expand overall Colomac project at Indin Lake North of 60 Mining News – February 21, 2020

Nighthawk Gold Corp. Feb. 19 reported strong gold results from drilling at Goldcrest, a parallel sill located 400 meters east of the Colomac Main on the company's Indin Lake gold property in Canada's Northwest Territories.

"Goldcrest is very similar to Colomac Main except it has been drilled significantly less and has a shorter strike length of 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) compared to the nine-kilometer (5.6 miles) strike length of Colomac Main," said Nighthawk Gold President and CEO Michael Byron.

Goldcrest Sill hosts 3.8 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 1.51 grams per metric ton (174,000 ounces) gold, according to a resource calculated in 2018.

Nighthawk recently completed seven holes at Goldcrest to follow-up on areas highlighted by drilling completed at this deposit area in 2014, 2016 and 2017, as well as target new resource expansion opportunities within Goldcrest's southern section.

"Goldcrest was last drilled in 2017 and several key areas remain unexplored as illustrated by the high-grade intercept in hole C19-05," said Byron.

Drilled in the Goldcrest South area, hole C19-05 cut 68.5 meters (eight meters true-width) of two grams per metric gold from a depth of 17.5 meters, including 15.5 meters (two meters true-width) of 5.47 g/t gold from 70.5 meters.

"This hole was drilled within a previously untested section of the sill tracing strong continuity of mineralization to depth," Byron explained.

All seven holes intersected gold mineralization over 400 meters of strike at Goldcrest South.

Other highlights from this drilling at Goldcrest include:

• 9.95 meters of 1.02 g/t gold from a depth of 312.5 meters in hole C19-01.

• 6.75 meters (two meters true-width) of 3.18 g/t gold from 159.75 meters and 7.75 meters (two meters true-width) of 6.95 g/t gold from 425 meters in C19-05.

The reason for the large difference in drilled-width and true-width in C19-01 and C19-05 is that most of the holes were drilled steeply in order to explore the sill below previous drilling and encountered new mineralization intersected over significant downhole lengths.

Nighthawk said values typical of Colomac Main-type high-grade zones were encountered in hole C19-05 with the latest holes extending mineralization to new depths.

Large portions of the Goldcrest sill remain unexplored to depth as well as along strike to the south, within the northern portion of Goldcrest North and within an 800-meter section that separates Goldcrest South and Goldcrest North.

The entire Colomac project – Goldcrest, Colomac and Grizzly Bear deposits – hosts 50.3 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 1.62 grams per metric ton (2.61 million ounces) of gold, according to a resource calculated in May.

"We continue to encounter robust mineralization throughout the Colomac area sills, which reinforces our belief that with continued exploration, new discoveries and ongoing expansion of known zones will follow," said Byron.
