Preparing for a future Herbert Gold mine

Grande Portage begin collecting baseline data for permitting North of 60 Mining News – April 16, 2021

Grande Portage Resources Ltd. April 12 said it has begun the process of collecting the environmental and other baseline data that will be needed for future mine permitting at the Herbert Gold project in Southeast Alaska.

According to a 2019 calculation, Herbert Gold hosts 1.88 million metric tons of indicated resource averaging 10.03 grams per metric ton (605,000 ounces) gold; plus 553,429 metric tons of inferred resource averaging 14.15 g/t (251,700 oz) gold.

Since the calculation, drilling has extended the three gold mineralized veins that host this resource and encountered high-grade gold in parallel veins.

With the resource growing to a size to support a commercial mine, Grande Portage has engaged Admiralty Environmental, Core Geoscience, and Jade North to assist and oversee the collection of baseline data that a developer would need for a future Herbert Gold mine.

This work will begin with acid and base accounting, water and air quality, and other data collection that requires longer sampling and analytical times.

"These long lead data points are required of any evolving future mining asset and are critical in de-risking the project," said Grande Portage Resources President and CEO Ian Klassen. "While it is impossible to confirm the direction of any environmental assessment until the size parameters and scope of a project is fully defined, the baseline data required for any EA or EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) will include the data being acquired. This new initiative will add value to the project by advancing such studies."

The company said consultation with the US Forest Service, Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, and other authorizing agencies will be conducted to confirm compliance with all regulations.

In addition, leading up to its 2021 field season, Grande Portage says it has Department of Natural Resources' permit authorizations, as well as its fish habitat permit and the City & Borough of Juneau development permit. The Company expects to receive its 2021 USFS decision memorandum shortly.

The company plans to carry out a roughly 8,500-meter drill program at Herbert Gold in 2021.
