Gahcho Kué Mine offers 151.6 carat gem

Exceptional colored diamond will be part of September sale North of 60 Mining News – September 2, 2022

Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. Aug. 31 announced the upcoming sale of diamonds from the Gahcho Kué mine in Canada's Northwest Territories will include a 151.6 carat colored octahedron of exceptional clarity.

Co-owned by De Beers Canada (51%) and Mountain Province (49%), Gahcho Kué has become known as a source of exceptional, gem-quality, large diamonds since going into production in 2016.

The 157.4-carat Polaris, which appears colorless in daylight but shines with a deep blue color under UV light; a 60.59-carat yellow diamond; and a 95.21 clear diamond are among the large gem-quality stones that have been recovered from Northwest Territories' newest diamond mine.

"This important diamond represents a clear example of the Gahcho Kué Mine's ability to consistently recover high-quality gems of exceptionally large size," said Mountain Province Diamonds Vice President of Diamond Marketing Reid Mackie. "These gems are highly coveted by collectors around the globe not only for their beauty but increasingly, for their Canadian origin."

The 151.6-carat diamond recently recovered will be offered by Mountain Province for sale alongside a selection of more than 90 individual special rough diamonds recovered from Gahcho Kué. The upcoming sale represents the largest offering of greater than 10.8 carat gem quality diamonds offered by the company to date.

Viewing of the offered diamonds, which will also include the company's customary run-of-mine assortments, will take place during Mountain Province's September sale being held at Bonas Group's offices in Antwerp, Belgium, from Sept. 5 to Sept. 16.
