Grande Portage's 2023 drill program has extended the high-grade Goat Vein at Herbert Gold to nearly 1,000 meters.

Grande Portage Resources Ltd. Oct. 31 announced the results from the next three holes of its 6,500-meter drill program at the Herbert Gold project in Southeast Alaska.

Located 16 miles (25 kilometers) north of Juneau, the Herbert Gold project is an exploration stage, high-grade, gold-mineralized mesothermal quartz vein system in the historic Juneau Gold Belt.

According to a 2021 calculation, Herbert Gold hosts 3.64 million metric tons of indicated resource averaging 10.23 grams per metric ton (1.2 million ounces) gold, and 5.87 g/t (686,700 oz) silver; plus 1.14 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 8.91 g/t (325,900 oz) gold, and 4.63 g/t (169,300 oz) silver.

Due to hiccups in 2022, Grande Portage enlisted the help of NISS (Nasco Industrial Services and Supply) Global, whose clients include Hecla Mining, Rio Tinto, Barrick, and Newmont Gold, to drill up to 20,000 feet (6,562 meters).

Kicking off its drilling in June, the company aimed to utilize four different drill platforms to test numerous targets and satellite structures between 15 to 20 holes; and is considered a continuation of previous drilling, which successfully tested multiple gold-quartz veins of the Herbert mesothermal vein system with very encouraging results.

Highlights from the first batch of assays reported in September include: 1.2 meters averaging 7.83 g/t gold in hole 22/23AB-5; and 2.95 meters averaging 17.4 g/t gold in 23M-1.

With drilling from Pad AB and Pad M completed, the drill rig was moved to Pad P.

The latest batch of results are from Pad P. Highlights include: 1.1 meters averaging 7.66 g/t gold in hole 23P-1; 2.83 meters averaging 7.75 g/t gold in 23P-2; and 3.39 meters averaging 9.9 g/t gold in 23P-4.

Testing an area of the eastern Goat vein which previously had indications of strong gold mineralization but only had sparse drilling, Grande Portage says these holes substantiate that this is a significant gold-bearing region of the Goat and is expected to have a positive impact on the company's future mineral resource calculation.

"Drilling this season certainly assists to fill in certain gaps within the established resource and adds to the confidence leading into a new resource estimate that will include the added drilling completed over the recent three-year period," said Grande Portage Resources President and CEO Ian Klassen. "Extending the higher-grade Goat vein to the east with these three more material intersections is great news."

Assays from the last hole from Pad P as well as drilling from Pad BB, the easternmost pad on the property, are pending.
