Last Boundary results exemplify prospect

Builds excitement toward updated Macpass resource estimate North of 60 Mining News - January 24, 2024

Comprised of a road-accessible project adjacent to Yukon's border with NWT, the 544-square-kilometer (210 square miles) Macmillan Pass project blankets a roughly 55-kilometer (34 miles) trend of zinc, lead, and silver mineralization.

Fireweed Metals Corp. Jan. 22 announced the final results from a pivotal 2023 drilling campaign that successfully defined a high-grade feeder zone that joins the Boundary Main and Boundary West targets into the singular Boundary Zone on the company's Macmillan Pass zinc-lead-silver project in Yukon, Canada.

Accumulating more data for an inevitable updated resource estimate, the 2023 program utilized five rigs to complete more than 22,500 meters of diamond drilling at the Boundary, Tom, and Jason deposits at Macmillan Pass.

Initial drilling focused on stepping out from the high-grade intersections encountered at Boundary in 2022 in order to test the potential continuation of high-grade mineralization between Boundary Main and Boundary West.

As its first assays began to roll in, targeting this region between Boundaries, Fireweed confirmed the speculated existence of a high-grade feeder zone that linked the two deposits.


"The first results of the season have already been a game-changer for Fireweed, demonstrating the presence of a high-grade layer of massive sulphides and stratiform mineralization feeder system which connects Boundary West and Boundary Main in one single zone which we are now just calling Boundary," said Fireweed Metals CEO Brandon Macdonald.

With the final results from 2023 drilling at Boundary, the last pieces of the puzzle enable a complete picture of its efforts and facilitates greater context toward a plan for 2024.

"2023 was a pivotal year at Boundary Zone in which we discovered a high-grade feeder system that connects the mineralization and forms a continuous zone with increasing grade and true widths at depth," said Macdonald.


Highlights from the last holes drilled at Boundary in 2023 include:

53 meters (estimated 21 meters true width) averaging 12.07% zinc, 1.05% lead, and 53.6 grams per metric ton silver from a depth of 426.78 meters in hole NB23-034.

20.22 meters averaging 6.51% zinc, 1.15% lead, and 51.5 g/t silver from 396.96 meters in NB23-035.

45.22 meters (estimated 44 meters true width) averaging 18.98% zinc, 2.24% lead, and 114.9 g/t silver from 210.33 meters in NB23-036.

118.36 meters (estimated 47 meters true width) averaging 11.58% zinc, 1.75% lead, and 54.9 g/t silver from 352.74 meters in NB23-037.


"These final results exemplify the spectacular grades that we see at this best-in-class project, with holes from this year containing not just the feeder zone, but also the vein mineralization halo around it that contains some remarkably high-grade breccias," the Fireweed CEO added.

Out of the 39 holes completed at depth at Boundary, only three were infill holes, while the remaining 36 were step-outs that tested the vein and breccia mineralization, laminated stratiform mineralization, and massive sulfide zones.

Fireweed reiterates that the geometry and stratigraphic sequence intersected in these holes continue to support the idea that the laminated and massive sulfide mineralization are part of the same geological layer at Boundary Zone.


In addition to the extensive vein and breccia mineralization at Boundary Zone, which occurs both stratigraphically above and below the main stratiform laminated massive sulfide zone, this mineralization also forms within a halo approximately 100 meters to 150 meters wide on both sides of the stratiform laminated zone and is interpreted as stockwork of randomly oriented veins and breccia zones.

"These final holes from the 2023 season solidify Boundary Zone as a significant addition to the Macpass project, and with a few holes still pending from Tom and Jason, we are looking forward to integrating all results into a mineral resource estimate in the coming months to begin to understand the enormity of the mineral endowment within this premier zinc district," Macdonald concluded.


Assays remain pending for 11 holes from the Tom deposit, and two from Jason.
