Kinross Alaska is comprised of the Fort Knox mine and the Tetlin mine project. Fort Knox, near Fairbanks, has been operating since 1996 and produced its 8th millionth ounce of gold in 2019. It employs 700 employees, plus on-site contractors. Also in 2019, Kinross proceeded with the Gilmore life of mine extension project. The Tetlin project is a joint venture with Contango and is located on Tetlin tribal land near Tok. The Native Village of Tetlin owns both the surface and subsurface rights. Plans are to start producing gold in 2024 with a focus on local hire and optimizing local businesses. Kinross will truck the high grade ore to Fort Knox for processing, which reduces the environmental footprint by removing the need for a tailings facility.

Usibelli Coal Mine (UCM) is the only operational coal mine in Alaska located 115 miles south of Fairbanks. Founded in 1943 by Emil Usibelli, the mine continues to be a fourth generation, family owned business 75 years later. UCM produces approximately 1-million tons of ultra-low sulfur coal that is supplied to the power plants located in Interior Alaska for heat and power.
